How to Make Boxed Brownies Taste More Homemade?

by Brownie on January 20, 2012

I am making a cheesecake with a brownie crust. It calls to use the box mix rather than making them from scratch. I want to do this because it is easier than doing them homemade, but what can I add to make them not taste so much like straight out of the box brownies? I already add cinnamon to them. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Wow these are all awesome ideas! Thank you!

add some instant coffee granules to the brownie batter, or if you haven’t added liquid yet, some cold brewed coffee as part of the water. Emphasizes the choc flavor, coffee does.

cook them a little less than reccomended but until theyre done enough so you won’t get sick bc it will make them squishier and softer and more delicious

Add chocolate chips. A cup would be enough. Even a handful would be helpful.

To make any boxed mix taste less “boxed” add a teaspoon or two of vanilla. Works every time. To anything chocolate, you can also add a touch of good cinnamon. Yummmm!
